Criteria A: Presentation of the issue
The combining of different kinds of data and compress into an application is called a mashup. Today the usage of data mashups has greatly increased the high demand of using these applications as tools that help to understand different technological aspects such as “juxtaposing data” from different sources such as places and time; the checking out of different webs. These webs have advantages as for example education has been improved (Horizon project 2008) because students have the opportunity to check data from different backgrounds and by this way having broad research that led to new conclusions and ways of perceiving the world. Also in other aspects as medicines mining which offers computerized dossiers, the doctors and prescriptions formulated can be easily identified and tracked down. A particular example is how “ US doctors object to data mining (Saul Stephanie, 2007) this article discuses the issue of doctors being against data mining because companies can easily identify the doctor and what drugs is he formulating to his patients. The negative side of this webs is how some hackers use the mashups in order to collect information from different places and use that to attack data bases and business might get affected, and also the pressure that the doctors have when formulating medicine because companies can manipulate the products that are being sold and therefore allowing the creation of monopolies.
This portfolio addresses mashups focusing on data mining, which is a form of mashup it is mostly to extract useful data from a certain source to form webs that are specialized on something for example pharmaceutical supplies which is going be analyzed later. Ethical issues involved are privacy and security because hackers can easily enter to data bases and what involves privacy is the way the doctors are being manipulated and pressure is given on them since they are being tracked down they have to formulate drugs from a certain company.
